Burgendy Rubber Tree - Ficus Elastica

A great plant for beginners as it is one of the more hardy varieties of fig plants. The Rubber Tree is even known to tolerate a little neglect. The Burgundy Rubber Tree is one of my personal favorites for the large burgundy from which it has earned its name. The Rubber Tree likes a moderate amount of water, medium humidity, and bright but indirect light. It is best to water when the top half of the soil is dry, typically once a week. You may see a benefit to dusting the leaves as they are rather large, allowing for easy build-up. It makes a great statement plant as it stands out amongst your greener plants and can grow rather tall. This plant is native to the tropics of Africa and Asia, as such it is sensitive to big changes in temperature. Be careful with this plant as it is toxic to ingest and the sap is known to cause irritations. The best way to propagate the Rubber Tree is by stem cuttings.
